Dyson Base

Dyson Base is the name given to a building the SGC believes was constructed by the Builders, the name given to the unknown race that built the Ringworld itself. It is being used as the main base of operations for the SGC on the Ringworld. The base itself is located on the “northern” part of the island-continent currently being called Primus. The region is mostly forested hills and plains conducive to farming, with the base being set on top of a hill overlooking a small valley. In this valley is a small farm community of humans known as the Kamari. More on the Kamari can be found below, in the sectioned titled Native Life forms.

Dyson Base is a medium sized outpost, apparently built for the purpose of monitoring various functions of the Ringworld at this location. It consists of a large computer core hooked up to several sensors positioned in various remote locations, including above the surface, below the surface and in various land and sea based locations. The base itself consists of four above ground levels and two below ground levels, and contains two cargo/storage areas, living quarters, a small air hanger with 4 vessels (3 fighter type craft and one troop/cargo transport type craft), a garage, also containing 4 vehicles (1 motorcycle style craft, two larger troop/cargo transports, and one “sports car” style vehicle, all of which are off road capable), and an underground tram station.

The very top level of the base is the command and control center (C&C), which is set up in a large dome that opens to a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills and valley. The windows making up this dome were initially closed with some kind of protective shield. The C&C also looks down upon the main cargo bay, leading to the supposition that this base was also a way station for cargo transportation. This bay has since been refurbished as a gate-room, with the Ringworld’s Stargate having been moved into this room, and the DHD placed in C&C. At this time, an iris is being fitted over the Ringworld gate.

Col. Valentine is the CO of the base, as well as the leader of SG-4.

Three other teams are to accompany him to the base, designated teams Alpha, Beta, and Delta. These teams are, in order, an exploration team, a negotiation specialist team, and a marine team.

Dr. Guy Smith will be the head of the civilian scientist compliment. He will report directly to Col. Valentine. 10 scientists will be under him, working in as broad a verity of fields as possible, including physics, engineering and botany.

Major Thomas Van Horn will be the head of the marine contingent and will report directly to Col. Valentine. Though he is not directly in charge of team Delta, they do report to him. Besides team Delta, there will also be 5 other marines on base at any one time.
