Stargate SG-4 Season 2
The Great Ring, part 1: A routine survey of P3X-991 reveals an ancient tablet written in a language previously unknown. Translations of the tablet reveal the worlds “Great Ring” and hint at a powerful weapon or technology, and have two gate addresses, one complete and one not complete. As SG-4 prepares to travel to the first address, all records of the tablet kept in the computer system are erased. Thankfully, the tablet itself is kept safe, and SG-4’s mission is now upgraded to apprehend whoever stole the information from the database. Moving to P5X-195, the first address, the party finds themselves in an underground station of high technology construction. It’s a maze, but they are able to find their way through pretty easily, and soon discover a group of rogue NID agents who claim they were attacked by a Goa’ould, Morpheus. Eventually, SG-4 encounters Morpheus, who escapes thanks to his shield and a special device that turns him practically invisible. The party returns to the SGC with the surviving NID captives and the complete second address.
The Great Ring, part 2: SG-4 gather’s up equipment in preparation for taking on a Goa’ould and to find this “Great Ring” before he does. The translating team, led by Dr. Guy Smith, has translated more of the tablet, and now believes that the Builders (what Smith’s team is calling the people that wrote the tablet) were referring to some kind of unlimited power source, and not a weapon. Exiting the gate on a plain, the team sees that the horizon seems to rise into the sky rather than disappearing. Heading to a large fortress, they run into a village peopled by humans. These humans have already encountered Morpheus, and point towards the “Castle of the Builders.” Once there, they encounter Morpheus, who has a strange device. He sets it off, assuming it is a weapon, and when it doesn’t work, turns invisible and flees. His device, however, sent a signal to an alien race, called the N’sss, who descend on the village and start attacking the humans. SG-4, finding a way into the base, gather some vehicles located in the base, and attack and defeat the N’sss. Meanwhile, while in the base, the get the computers working, and discover that this world is, in fact, a Type 1 Dyson Sphere, also known as a Ringworld. The world itself is the Great Ring.
The Lord of Dreams: After reporting back to Hammond, SG-4 is given the go-ahead for a 72 hour reconnaissance of the Ringworld, especially the base they discovered, as well as to find and, if possible, bring Morpheus back. A small group, consisting of Lt. Col. Valentine, Ash, Ray and Steve, heads off in one of the Builder flyers to find Morpheus. They find a small jungle near the fortress that shows signs of a culture living there, and land. The people living in this jungle are a strange reptile people. Apparently, Morpheus has been here, and has started to influence these people. Some display rifle weapons that have been modified to a crude representation of Jaffa Staff Weapons. There is a civil war going on between those that follow Morpheus and those loyal to the “old ways.” Though the party fails to find Morpheus, they do find evidence that suggests he may have fled further away from the fortress, towards a rumored “city of the Builders.”
Quake: Col. Valentine gets a report from Dr. Smith that one of the scientists has discovered some basics about the tram system. Taking SG-4, Valentine decides to investigate. Traveling to the next available stop on the Tram, the team experiences a large earthquake, one so strong that the tram itself was knocked off the tracks and rolled several times before stopping. With no serious injuries, SG-4 emerges from the tram to find a N’sss investigating a body of a dead humanoid. After defeating the N’sss in a battle, they take the bodies and try to get to the platform. Upon arrival, another quake hits, causing Ash to drop the N’sss body he was carrying, which gets buried under the rubble. On the surface, the team encounters the Zarn, a race of pale skinned humanoids with large, round eyes. The Zarn are apparently a nomadic trading people, who have traded with the Kinori in the past, though they have never heard of the Kamari They apparently see the tram site as a sacred site of the Builders, and worship here. After some quick trading of spare uniforms, the team gets horse like creatures and rides back to Dyson Base.
Five Days: While Col. Valentine is back on Earth reporting, a new recruit shows up at Dyson Base, Laura Crow. Laura is a cryptologist who has worked with Agent Davis in the past, along with several other intelligence organizations. She was sent to Dyson Base to help crack the builder database. The data base seems to have lots of sealed and encrypted areas, most of which play music when trying to get into them. Laura and Mac both decide to turn the music into math formulas, the answer to which allows them into that section of the database. Using this new knowledge, they enter a small lab (with SG-4 tagging along in case of trouble), to try this theory out on. They do open this section of the database, which starts a diagnostic program that releases some bio-hazard, resulting in the lab being sealed from the rest of the base. It turns out that one of the lab cages once held a gelatinous life form that left spores behind, and upon contact with the air, the spores released themselves, and several members of the team were implanted with eggs. Dr. Cynthia Ross, Dyson Bases’ lead surgeon, lead the research to find a way to remove these eggs from the infected members, and the bacteria that causes these eggs form the remainder of the team. It takes a total of 5 days, during which time Laura and Ray both nearly die. In the end, Ray, taking his lead from Dr. Ross, surgically removes the eggs from the team, saving everyone.
The N’sss Machine, part 1: Col. Valentine calls a meeting consisting of Steve, Ray, Mac and a previously unknown marine Captain named O'Hanrahan. Also present at the meeting is Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith informs the group that the quake they encountered recently is quite impossible, due to the fact that the Ringworld has no tectonic plates. Therefore, the quake was caused by some outside force, or something is wrong with the Ringworld in that area, which could be even more devastating. Col. Valentine has selected Steve, Ray and Mac to investigate and find out what happened. Captain O'Hanrahan will be accompanying them as well, leading Alpha team, so that they have some backup. Steve takes the team in the Turtle, his name for one of the APC vehicles. Arriving at the scene, they discover that the Zarn village has been burned and none of the Zarn themselves appear to be there. However, they do discover an attack force of N’sss, and a battle breaks out. Two of the marines from Alpha team are lost, and a third is covered the strange, green goo that the N’sss use to capture people. Meanwhile, Steve manages to kill a N’sss by ramming it with the Turtle, thus providing them with a sample of their technology as well as biology. With no way of currently finding the missing marines, the group returns to base to report.
The N’sss Machine, part 2: Doctor Smith’s science team has made a breakthrough with the N’sss armor the team recovered. They think that they can trace it back to its mother ship through a homing beacon found inside. Using this information, SG-4, lead by Valentine, mounts a rescue operation to recover the trapped marines. Using the vehicles in the base, they fly towards the location, where a brief dogfight and some fancy maneuvering by Steve get the team inside the ship. Once there, they not only find the missing marines, but several trapped humans, kinori and zarn. They take them all, and, planting a bomb in what looks like the engine room, destroys the mother ship during their escape. The zarn they rescue informs them that the N’sss were causing the earthquakes by their village using a machine underground. He leads SG-4 to the site, where they fight with the N’sss guarding the machine and eventually destroy it. For what purpose the machine was built was unknown at the time, but the zarn are grateful for saving their village.
Gaia Calling: A call from Earth notifies SG-4 that the Gaians have visited Earth asking for them specifically. It appears that the Goa’ould that brought them to their world, Mannin Mac Lier, has returned, with a mothership. The Gaians technology is not up to the point where they can deal with this attack, and everything they feared upon the discovery of their stargate is coming true. SG-4 agrees to go to Gaia and help. They find the mothership landed on the great pyramid found just outside the capital city. Leading a small force of Gaian military, SG-4 launches a commando style raid on the mothership, hoping to find Mannin Mac Lier and kill him. While on board, they learn that the Goa’ould is not here himself, that this is just a conquest force. It is, however, lead by his first prime. A fierce battle ensues, but in the end SG-4 wins, killing the first prime. Taking control of the navigation, SG-4 causes the mothership to crash, effectively ending it’s use as a tool of conquest. The Gaians thank SG-4 for saving their world, and providing them with a mothership. They hope to reverse engineer the technology for their protection.
Monster in the Woods: Dr. Smith reports that the tram system is not as gone as they at first expected. Apparently, there are levels to the tram, besides the one first encountered. There are at least 4 levels below the main level, and all of them seem to be in working order. They’ve even discovered that a stop on Level 2 is in working order. Valentine orders SG-4 to explore, taking the lead himself. The team arrives in the station, which looks long abandoned. When they reach the surface, they discover themselves in the schoolhouse of a kinori village. These kinori, however, are luddites of a sort, refusing the technology of the more industrious city states and preferring this lonely valley, surrounded by the forest. They are quickly accused of working with the “monster,” descriptions of which make the team think it’s a N’sss. Eager to capture a live N’sss, the team leaves the village to confront this “monster.” When they find it, it turns out it is, indeed, a N’sss, without armor. After a brief fight, it surrenders and speaks to them in accented kinori. Here, the team learns that the N’sss has been working with the village elders to keep people both in the village and outsiders away from it, in return for food. The N’sss, the team learns, eat brains, looking specifically for an enzyme produced by most sentient beings. The N’sss was part of an early scouting party to determine if a viable food source was on the ringworld, and if found they would signal for their troops to come. He lost his signal device in a crash that killed his companions, however. That’s when he struck up a bargain with the village elders, to stay alive. Confronting the village elders, the team leaves a young kinori farmer in charge and takes the N’sss back to base for further study. Mac especially wants to learn more about the enzyme N’sss eat, to see if it can be produced artificially.
Phase Three: SG-4 returns to Earth for a briefing with Hammond. During this briefing, they are introduced to the newest ally of Earth in the ongoing fight against the Goa’ould, the Tok’ra. After hearing about the Ringworld, and especially the N’sss, a Tok’ra xenobiologist named Nestor asked to be allowed to go to the Ringworld to study both it and the N’sss. Hammond agreed with the condition that all information gained during this study was shared with Earth. So, Nestor (who’s host’s name is Gil) return with SG-4. Nestor participates in the questioning of “Monster,” the N’sss captured a few days ago. Nestor modifies a Tok’ra interrogation device to the unique physiology of the N’sss and with it’s help, the team learns that the homing devices in N’sss armor can be used in reverse, to find nearby N’sss bases. They also learn that there are normally 3 Phases to a N’sss invasion. The first was what Monster did, a small scouting team to determine if a suitable food source existed on this world. Then came Phase 2, the survey team, who did studies to determine if the food source was in sufficient quantities to support an invasion. Finally, Phase 3 was the invasion itself. Using the homing beacon from the armor they had, the team discovers a base not too far from Dyson Base, in the Kinori jungles. Using the tram system, they find a stop nearby and set to raid the base in search of more information. In the mean time, Doctor Cynthia Ross is working with Builder technology to see if she can synthesize the enzyme the N’sss feed on. The raid on the base goes well, and the team manages to recover not only some N’sss portable computers, but also a N’sss flyer and two more captives as well. With the information recovered from the computers, Dr. Ross says she can synthesize the enzyme, though it will take time to do it in any kind of quantity. Questioning the new captives meats with much resistance, and they only say that “it is too late.” Suddenly, Valentine gets a call from the command station, and when they arrive they see that Phase 3 has begun. Hundreds of N’sss motherships are nearing the Ringworld.
Into the Belly of the Beast: With four days until the arrival of the N’sss, Dyson Base is a hive of activity as everyone prepares. Hammond is attempting to get reinforcements made available, and evacuation plans are being prepared. Meanwhile, a new Tok’ra arrives at the base, Maltor. A linguistic specialist, he quickly learns the basics of the N’sss language, and with his help the team fixes the captured N’sss scout ship they have. In the process, he and Steve discover that the N’sss apparently have a constant communication going on between all their ships, for coordination and control. If the team could find the central communications center, they could cripple the N’sss fleet before they even get there. Valentine approves the mission, and the team takes a few days to prepare. With two days until the invasion, a call for help arrives from Tridor, a Kinori city. Apparently, the N’sss are establishing a pre-invasion beach head, and Tridor is getting refugees from that area, and is requesting help. Valentine gathers a strike force to deal with the beach head as well as the refugees, while ordering Steve, Ray and Ash to take Maltor and find that communications center, disable it, and return. Steve and Ash fly the jury rigged scout-ship to the N’sss fleet, where Maltor convinces them they are returning for repairs. They land, take out the repair team in the hanger bay, and make their way through the mother ship to the communications center, smack in the middle of the ship. Ray uses his computer expertise to hack into the N’sss network, and re-sets their measurements, so that everything is slightly off, which should result in ships crashing into each other, or the ground. Then the alarm goes off, and the team needs to leave. Steve suggests setting off C4 charges and the communication center and the backup center before leaving, which they do. During a firefight to escape, Maltor is seriously wounded. The wounds are too traumatic for the symbiote to heal before the host dies, and the host begs for one of SG-4 to take Maltor. Ray volunteers, and Maltor is transferred to his new host. Less one person, SG-4 steals a N’sss fighter ship and returns to the Ringworld.
Invasion, part 1: With the N’sss beginning to land, SG-4 takes the 200+ refugees from the Kinori and puts them in the cargo rooms underneath Dyson Base. It’s cramped, but works for now. Meanwhile, Gen. Hammond calls, saying all he can send is 20 marines, which Valentine accepts, but not happily. Meanwhile, Nestor and Dr. Ross report that they have discovered a way to poison the enzyme the N’sss feed upon, though Dr. Ross protests its use. They can either introduce it to the Kinori themselves, which results in the Kinori still being eaten before the poison takes effect, or they can turn the poisoned enzyme into a powered form. Going with the powered form, Mac realizes they can use the N’sss communications network to force their battle suits to open to the environment, allowing the team to drop the powder onto them as they march. Mac and Steve fly out with missles armed with the powder to face the amassed N’sss solders, who are now marching on Dyson Base. Meanwhile, a small force of N’sss invade the base itself, but the rest of the team and the marines manage to hold them off. The poison seems to be a success, as the massed troops either fall or flee. However, before anyone can celebrate victory, the N’sss Mother Ship descends to the Ringworld’s surface, right above Dyson Base! To be continued…
